Service Details

WestEd provides customized technical assistance and coaching across school and district systems to promote effective partnerships between general and special education with the desired goal of improved results — including, but not limited to, academic, social/emotional learning, and behavior — for all students.

We begin by building a collaborative team of general and special education staff to help conduct a comprehensive review of the current systems of support in your school and/or district. The focus is on students with disabilities and struggling learners.

Based on the results of the review, we work with the team to develop and customize an improvement plan.

The services we provide are based on the needs identified in the district’s improvement plan and aligned with district and school priorities. The services are designed to build the capacity of the personnel to implement improved services to address outcomes defined in the plan.

What Makes This Service Unique

Our special education services, offered by WestEd’s Center for Prevention & Early Intervention (CPEI) and Learning Innovations (LI), are based on decades of experience building capacity within school districts and individual schools.

CPEI and LI staff have extensive expertise in all levels of the education system. We work closely with teachers, site- and district-level administrators, and state education agency staff.

We also serve as technical assistance providers for national centers funded by the Office of Special Education Programs, and support improvement efforts in local school districts.
