WestEd’s Sharon Nelson-Barber will present at the National Indian Education Association (NIEA) Annual Convention, October 5-8, 2016, at the Grand Sierra Resort & Casino in Reno, NV.

Nelson-Barber will present — along with Nadine Groenig, Fredina Drye-Romero, and Chuck Foster — “Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): The Tri-State Indian Education Alliance Explores Moving Beyond Compliance to Innovation” on Friday, October 7, 1-2:15pm.

In this workshop, participants will learn about approaches to school and community structures that create the conditions for Indigenous student success.

Visit the NIEA convention web page for more information.

Nelson-Barber directs the Culture & Language in STEM Education division of WestEd’s Science, Technology, Engineering, & Mathematics (STEM) program. Her research centers on understanding how the sociocultural contexts in which students live influence the ways in which they make sense of schooling in mathematics and science.
