As an educator, are you seeking support to help you navigate instruction for students who are English Learners with disabilities? Are you seeking new strategies to help you better plan lessons that ensure all needs are met? You are not alone. Practitioners often find themselves seeking support for providing high-quality instruction for students at the intersection of English language learning and disability.
WestEd offers a two-day, in-person summer institute to support teachers. This professional learning is designed for your teams of classroom teachers, special education teachers, English language development teachers, administrators, and other support personnel working directly with students who are English Learners with disabilities. The institute helps you develop skills for instructional planning in the classroom.
Participants will learn how to implement asset-based, future-oriented practices to support learning acceleration and better understand the intersectional and diverse needs of this student group. Facilitators will guide teams in taking a deeper look at high-quality instruction using a variety of supportive frameworks.
What You Will Learn
In this institute, participants will learn to:
- Prepare high-quality learning opportunities to support the language development and specific learning needs of students who are English Learners with disabilities
- Accelerate learning with an understanding of students’ unique intersectional needs
- Engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration to cultivate deep, coherent, and shared expertise
- Design and “tune” effective lessons using collaborative protocols to improve outcomes for students who are English Learners with disabilities

Each session will run for two consecutive days from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., with an hour break for lunch on your own.
Audience
Since this institute focuses on instructional practice, we encourage teams of three or four, including the classroom teachers, special education teachers, English language development teachers, administrators, and other support personnel working directly with students who are English Learners with disabilities in the K-12 classroom.
Cost
$875 per person for two days, or a discounted cost of $850 per person for a team of three or more.
Includes 16 hours of professional development, a certificate verifying the 16 hours of professional learning, access to Padlet Wall resources, and an option for a unit of graduate credit from the University of Massachusetts Global at your own costs.
