Attend the third webinar in a six-part series hosted by the Western Educational Equity Assistance Center at WestEd
Date: Tuesday, March 14, 2023
Time: 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m. (PT)
Given the sharp increase in chronic absence rates during the pandemic, schools must take a team approach to addressing attendance. Individuals alone are not sufficient.
This session focuses on the essential functions and tools for teams to identify the patterns of inequity, understand the assets and barriers for each student group and select culturally appropriate, evidence-based strategies.
Who Should Attend
- Districts, charter management organizations, Bureau of Indian Education schools, and tribally operated schools
- State education agency, Tribal Education Agency, Bureau of Indian Education, and Office of Indian Education staff
What You Will Learn
Participants will:
- Identify the key functions of a school team that addresses attendance and take stock of where they are in having a high-functioning team
- Learn about the assets, barriers, and strategies that affect student attendance
- Incorporate processes for incorporating student and family perspectives in identifying barriers and developing solutions
- Acquire culturally appropriate, evidence-based strategies that address the specific needs of each student group (e.g., the program for African American males at Elmhurst MS in Oakland, CA)
