As teachers increasingly provide remote instruction through distance and hybrid learning, many are finding it challenging to deeply engage students. The Maximizing Student Engagement in Remote Learning: Virtual Institute will describe and model high-leverage practices to revitalize remote instructional practice and promote active learning.
Teachers are invited to join us for an interactive institute to:
- Reflect on their experiences with remote learning
- Connect with peers from across the country
- Revitalize their remote instructional practice
What Educators Are Saying:
Having collaborative discussions with other educators and administrators is essential, especially when we are feeling isolated and defeated. Reaching out and seeking help from others has also been very crucial in surviving this unknown teaching dynamic. — Teacher
Everything that we have learned through the training has been tremendously helpful. Teachers need tons of support and confidence in their remote learning teaching practices. — Teacher
This remote learning series has supported my coaching immensely. I feel like I spend my week addressing to-do items, but this provides me with a time to reflect and improve my practice in an intentional way. — Instructional Coach
WestEd provided and modeled simple yet effective ways to engage students in remote learning. Teacher response was overwhelmingly positive and I was grateful that the staff left the session with a bank of strategies and tools that they could implement right away. — Principal

Technology Tools and Resources:
This institute is intended to provide opportunities related to engaging students in remote learning environments, but will not deliver product training on specific technology solutions.
We will, however, model the use of several technology tools including: Zoom, Nearpod, Screencastify, FlipGrid, Google Slides, Google Doc, and Google Jamboard. We understand this is a small selection of the resources available, but the strategies we share can be applied to many other technology tools and contexts.
