Register for 2020 Summer Institutes: Reading Apprenticeship Introduction Live, August 4–6, in San Francisco, CA

Professional Learning Northern CA

Update: WestEd recognizes that the COVID-19 global pandemic is causing disruptions to normal planning for many schools and districts around the nation. At this time, we do plan to host summer learning opportunities and will adjust our approach to respond to evolving conditions. We put the health and safety of our clients and staff first and foremost.

Reading Apprenticeship hosts annual Summer Institutes to celebrate and challenge educators through the study of evidence-based principles and practice that develop language and literacy skills. The Summer Institutes empower educators to leverage their deep subject-matter expertise and foster connections between subject areas to promote optimal learning outcomes across disciplines.

If you’re new to Reading Apprenticeship, this introductory seminar is the perfect place to start. Designed for middle and high school teachers of all subject areas, as well as administrators who will be supporting teachers’ implementation of Reading Apprenticeship, this three-day session will teach you how to model the reading strategies you use as an expert reader in your subject area, techniques to engage students in understanding their own thinking processes, how to integrate and accelerate students’ subject area learning and subject area literacy, lesson planning strategies, and much more.

What You Will Learn

  • Engage students in understanding their own thinking processes — the power of metacognition
