The theme of this year’s conference is “Rethink, Reshape, Reimagine, Revolutionize: Growing the Profession Post Pandemic.”

The Annual Meeting allows educators to engage in meaningful discussions, exchange research and practices, and improve their ability to drive change in the educator preparation field.

Session: Advancing Culturally Responsive and Sustaining Education in the Era of Truth Decay

Culturally responsive and sustaining education (CRSE) is more crucial than ever due to the racial injustices that have long existed and have been exacerbated by the events of 2020. In this session, educators working at all levels of the system share their stories of how they are overcoming obstacles to advance CRSE in the service of education equity.

Session: Facing Resistance in the Effort to Increase Educator Diversity

Increasing educator diversity has become more challenging as the K-12 student population has become significantly diverse, while the workforce has remained predominantly white. The research base increasingly demonstrates that race matters when it comes to the demographic mismatch of teachers and students. In this session, state and district leaders in a northeastern state share case stories of perseverance against resistance in their efforts to increase the racial diversity of the educator workforce.

Session: Democratizing Science — A Citizen Science Approach to Teacher Education

In this Case Story, we operationalize citizen science in teacher education to democratize science. Having a multi-stakeholder and multi-disciplinary approach to citizen science offers opportunities for more diverse perspectives to be included in question posing, data collection, data analysis, and data-informed advocacy. It puts teachers and students at the nexus of practice, research, and policy, and changes their relationships to the community, the natural world, and the field of science.

Session: Training Educators on Data Privacy and Data Ethics — How and Why

Education technology and virtual learning are here to stay, so teaching and professional development need to cover student data privacy and ethics. This hands-on workshop defines data privacy and ethics, explains why these topics should be part of teacher development, and reviews resources that teach students about data privacy and ethics.
