This case study explores the challenges and initiatives surrounding transfer students in higher education. It highlights the National Association of Higher Education Systems Transfer Success Networked Improvement Community (NIC), which aims to increase the percentage of in-state students enrolled at a 2-year institution who transfer and complete bachelor’s degrees within 6 years. The case study focuses on Commonwealth University (CU) within Pennsylvania’s State System of Higher Education, showcasing its efforts to improve transfer student outcomes through improvement science methodologies. CU implemented small tests of change, such as a 30-credit framework for transferring credits, resulting in positive impacts on student success.
