Ann Brackett
Director, Research and Evaluation, Learning Innovations

Ann Brackett, Director of Research and Evaluation at Learning Innovations at WestEd, located in the MA office, oversees a variety of program evaluation projects, including the Quebec Community Learning Centre network of 15 schools in the province of Quebec, SIATech—a network of 13 charter schools for high school dropouts, the New Bedford (MA) Smaller Learning Community grant, NJ-EXCEL alternative certification program for administrators, the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth alternative certification program for teachers of science, and the Prince George’s County (MD) ESOL program. Ann co-directs a fast response study of the distribution of highly qualified teachers ME and NY for the Regional Educational Laboratory for the Northeast and Islands and contributes to the regional needs sensing work throughout the Lab region. Co-author of Collaborative Evaluation Led by Local Educators: A Practical, Print- and Web-Based Guide (www.neirtec.org/evaluation), she frequently leads collaborative evaluation institutes and has trained over 50 teams of educators in VT, NH, MA, AK, CA, and Puerto Rico who have used their evaluation findings to improve special education programs, technology projects, and other school improvement initiatives.
Ann works collaboratively with clients to design process and outcome evaluations, often facilitating multiple stakeholder groups in developing program logic models. She has led evaluations of numerous teacher quality improvement initiatives, especially in science, mathematics, and technology.
Ann holds a Bachelor’s degree in French from Mary Washington University (VA) and a Master of Education degree in Educational Research from Northeastern University (MA). For 20 years before joining WestEd, she taught graduate courses in research design, quantitative analysis, and measurement and evaluation at Northeastern and Lesley Universities.
