
With the number of English and Multilingual Learners growing across the country, practitioners face the challenge of how to best provide instruction and intervention to support the language development and learning needs of these students.
WestEd is pleased to offer two professional learning opportunities designed to enhance educators’ skills in providing linguistically responsive instruction, intervention, and support for multilingual learners with disabilities. These interactive sessions will provide research-based strategies for high-quality teaching, intervention, and collaboration.
Enhancing Instruction for Multilingual Learners with Disabilities: Strategies for High-Quality Teaching, Intervention, and Collaboration (In-Person)
Dates: June 24 – 26, 2025

What to Expect
This three-day, hands-on interactive institute will provide participants and school teams with opportunities to enhance their skills in implementing Tier 1 high-quality instruction and tiered intervention practices. Participants will:
- learn strategies focused on Universal Design for Learning (UDL), Quality Interactions, and High Leverage Practices,
- utilize the PLUSS lesson planning framework to provide instruction and tiered interventions,
- identify data to inform special education evaluation and IEP development for multilingual learners found eligible for special education services,
- develop linguistically appropriate IEP goals and specially designed instruction aligned to both IEP and English language development goals, and
- explore dual language instruction, co-teaching, and collaboration strategies to support multilingual learners with disabilities.
Who Should Attend
This institute is designed for teams of general education, special education, and English language development teachers, dual language program teachers, intervention staff, site administrators, child study team members, special education administrators, and other support personnel working with multilingual learners suspected of having a disability or dual-identified students.
