WestEd’s Randal Tillery will present at the CATESOL 2019 Annual Conference which takes place on October 3 through 6 at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in San Jose, California. The theme of this year’s convention is “CATESOL at 50: Honoring the Past and Inspiring the Future.”
Tillery will present with Kathy Wada of Cypress College, “Learning About CB21: Understanding the New Competency Framework and Implications for Compliance with AB705 in California,” on Friday, October 4, 8:30-9:15am, in room 210F.
AB705 in California has created far-reaching changes in practices for placement into college coursework, the design of credit and noncredit curriculum, and the coding of course levels in MIS.
In 2018-19, the Chancellor’s Office and Academic Senate mandated that CB21 course levels and coding align more closely with Federal Educational Functioning Level descriptors.
This session explores the changes to the CB21 Rubrics for ESL; how they build on the Federal EFL’s, CAI rubric, and other standards; and recommendations for how they should be used to inform curriculum.
Randal Tillery is Project Director of Workforce Systems with WestEd’s Innovations Studies.
