The Count Play Explore (CPE) initiative is a statewide effort led by the Fresno County Superintendent of Schools to engage early childhood educators, professional learning (PL) facilitators, families, and children from birth through 3rd grade in joyful and developmentally appropriate early math experiences. Central to the initiative is a cascade model that begins with PL and coaching for facilitators across 25 agencies in California, including county offices of education, school districts, and nonprofit organizations, that then support educators and families in their local communities. CPE provides funding, resources, and research-based PL to strengthen participants’ math mindsets, knowledge, and instructional practices.
This collection includes a Q&A blog post, the CPE PL website with resources developed in partnership with WestEd, and briefs that summarize evaluation findings from WestEd, the initiative’s internal evaluator. Together, these resources provide comprehensive insights into how CPE supports early childhood educators and facilitators in promoting children’s early math development through PL and coaching.
