Description
More than 250 educators and administrators convened at the Leading Successful School Turnarounds: Learning from Research and Practice conference in Los Angeles, 2011.
Thelma Melendez de Santa Ana (U.S. Department of Education), commenting on changes to the SIG program designed to streamline implementation, noted: “…we’re making it clear that it’s time for bold reform, not timid tinkering. Our children can’t wait.”
The Center on Innovation and Improvement’s Lauren Morando Rihm addressed “Leveraging SIG Dollars to Drive Dramatic Improvement: Lessons Emerging from the Field.”
A discussion about “Effective Teaching/Effective Learning” was delivered by Debra Pickering, Senior Scholar at the Marzano Research Laboratory.
The two-day program included breakout sessions that facilitated networking, discussions, and the sharing of challenges and best practices among the state, local, and district-level participants.
