Carnegie Math Pathways (CMP) at WestEd recently developed and updated the Creating Inclusive, Resilient Communities of Learning (CIRCL) student supports framework to aid Statway and Quantway instructors—and those teaching other subjects—in fostering a positive and productive learning community for their students.
CIRCL helps instructors create a learning space where students experience an increased sense of belonging in the mathematics classroom. They are able to bring their authentic selves; engage in deep math learning relevant to their lives and experiences; and, ultimately, feel inspired and supported to engage in mathematics exploration.
To create this CIRCL, CMP worked with experts in STEM education and culturally responsive education to conduct a literature review of the current research. CMP also engaged collaboratively with Tribal college students and instructors who have participated in Quantway and/or Statway.
In this webinar, join the CMP team for a guided walk-through of the new CIRCL student support package. Led by Haley McNamara, lead researcher for Productive Persistence at WestEd, this session will help you gain an understanding of the principles behind the framework and acquaint you with the activities and resources you can use in your Quantway and Statway classroom and beyond.
