The online Group Care training courses feature the Program for Infant/Toddler Care (PITC) approach to infant/toddler care and are offered collaboratively by the California Department of Education, Early Learning and Care Division, and WestEd’s Center for Child and Family Studies and PITC Partners for Quality. The courses address how to support healthy social-emotional development and learning for young children in group care settings.
Participants will:
- Gain knowledge and understanding of children’s developmental stages, including early brain development, different temperament tendencies, and discoveries of infancy
- Learn evidence-based ways to best meet the social-emotional needs of infants and toddlers in group care
- Deepen cultural competency and strengthen partnerships with families
- Work with young students with special needs
Course Requirements:
Course participants will be expected to complete approximately 3–5 hours of coursework per week for 18 weeks. Coursework hours include flexible online “in-class time” and the completion of readings, group discussions, quizzes, assignments, and job-embedded practice. Participants must have regular access to a computer with an internet connection. Participants who successfully complete the course will be eligible for three units through California State University, Fresno.

- Teachers and assistant teachers
- Early childhood education specialists and professionals working with children under 36 months of age
Dates/Times: Upcoming trainings will be offered in September 2020 and January 2021.
Cost to register: $225 for California resident participants working 20 or more hours per week with children 0–36 months, and $775 for all other participants.
