Protecting students from bullying and discriminatory harassment in schools is our shared responsibility. In this two-part series, legal specialists will describe rights and responsibilities, and school administrators will share how they apply policies in their practice.

Given the increase in bullying behavior in schools and its devastating impacts on students, it is imperative that we learn about the roles and responsibilities of school districts to prevent these incidents. We must explore and understand a systemwide approach to combating bullying and keeping our students safe.

Most of the 50 states have anti-bullying laws in effect. This session will focus on the rights and responsibilities of a school district to address bullying and provide practical application of systems and structures that address bullying from a field perspective.

Who should attend?

Superintendents, district leaders, Tribal education directors, principals, site leaders, teachers, advocates, and state leaders

Participants will:

  • Learn about the legal responsibilities of addressing bullying from a school district perspective.
  • Gain practical knowledge based on an actual school district’s perspective and their approach to dismantling bullying in their district.
  • Explore evidence-based strategies to disrupt bullying in their district.
  • Obtain key resources in this session including a review of the federal and state law.
