Bejanae Kareem is a Senior Education Program Associate with the Quality Schools and Districts team at WestEd. She leads professional learning, technical assistance, and manages projects leading to more supportive learning environments and equitable outcomes for children across the nation.
Kareem’s areas of expertise include teacher effectiveness, school leadership coaching, community member engagement, and resource planning for federal, state, and local education agencies. She is a seasoned expert in systems thinking and analyses; high-yield adult learning methodologies, effective instructional design, and user experience techniques; and advanced interpersonal skills to coordinate external partners, internal staff, and contractors to expedite and implement high-value added services.
With 20 years of experience in preK–12 and postsecondary education programs, Kareem has served in various leadership and coaching capacities with an emphasis on education equity and building culturally-responsive practices. Prior to joining WestEd, she served as an education consultant, practitioner in urban preK–12 schools, adjunct faculty member, and project manager for postsecondary teacher preparation programs.
Kareem applies deep expertise in emotional intelligence to develop trust with community partners, internal staff, and holds exceptional content knowledge in K–12 core subjects and various learning modalities with an equity lens that builds the capacity of education leaders and teachers.
Bejanae Kareem holds an EdS degree in educational leadership from Lincoln Memorial University, a MEd degree in early childhood education, and a BS degree in biology from Georgia State University. She also obtained teaching certifications in Reading and English to Speakers of Other Languages, as well as a graduate certificate in project management and Gold-Level Kirkpatrick Evaluation certificate.
