How can your state strengthen the math teacher workforce?
The U.S. is facing a nationwide teacher shortage, especially in critical subjects such as math. Fewer people are enrolling in teacher preparation programs, turnover rates are high, and many schools rely on unqualified educators. These challenges have worsened since the pandemic, leading to declining student math achievement.
This brief outlines strategies to address the math educator shortage and improve math outcomes by investing in teacher preparation, retention, and data-driven partnerships between K–12 schools and educator training programs.
