California’s Behavioral Health Student Services Act (BHSSA) funds partnerships between county behavioral health departments and local education agencies to strengthen school behavioral health systems statewide. WestEd, in partnership with the Commission for Behavioral Health, is leading a statewide evaluation of this investment from July 2025 through June 2027. Codesigned with grantees, community partners, and youth, the evaluation draws on five components to assess the way BHSSA funds have been used and the effect on school behavioral health systems. Interim findings will be available in early 2026, with full results expected in June 2027.
