Baron Rodriguez

Baron Rodriguez is the Director of Privacy & Data Security for WestEd. His responsibilities include information security and privacy best practices for all aspects of WestEd’s engagements. This includes staff awareness and training, contractual safeguards, procedures, policies and legal considerations.

Rodriguez is a nationally recognized education data privacy expert and has delivered hundreds of trainings to school districts and postsecondary institutions across the country to increase awareness of data privacy and security in the education arena. He has extensive experience working with the public, private, and not-for-profit sectors on information and data security management.

Rodriguez has been involved in education data since 2003 as the Chief Information Officer for the Oregon Department of Education. During his tenure, he partnered with Oregon school districts to improve the quality and usage of data for the schools through timely delivery of assessment data to educators combined with professional development.

Prior to joining WestEd, Rodriguez was the Director of the U.S. Department of Education’s Privacy Technical Assistance Center and the National Center for Education Statistics’ State Longitudinal Data Systems technical assistance center.

Rodriguez received an MBA from George Fox University. He holds industry certifications including Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP/E) and is a certified Project Management Professional.
