Student using AI to study

Navigating the Promise of AI in Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly changing the future of education. Leaders need practical solutions, critical resources, and pioneering research to ensure safe, effective, and innovative use of AI.

This WestEd initiative is designed to help educators, leaders, and decision-makers use AI with more confidence, creativity, and purpose.

Our Commitment

At WestEd, we help build the skills and shared understanding needed to make smart, human-centered choices about AI. Our research and fieldwork keep us close to the latest innovation so that we can help you explore what’s possible.

How We Help

We support teachers and administrators in using AI to enhance instruction, save time, and strengthen student learning and engagement, particularly in math, science, and literacy. Here are some example offerings:

  • workshops, trainings, and guided professional learning communities on using GenAI
  • leadership coaching on the full life cycle of technology adoption
  • research and evaluation partnerships

We help faculty and campus leaders integrate AI into instruction to both improve teaching and prepare students for a changing workforce. Here are some example offerings:

  • professional learning that models ethical, real-world use of AI
  • strategy support for tackling challenges like academic integrity and skill building
  • research collaborations on equity, personalization, and future-ready learning

We’ve worked with more than 100 education technology start-ups and small businesses to help build usable, research-based, and classroom-relevant tools. Here are some example offerings:

  • early-stage support: feasibility studies, user testing, and classroom feedback
  • implementation guidance for real-world educational settings
  • independent research to evaluate impact and strengthen your market position

We help agencies lead confidently through policy, data, and system-level change. Here are some example offerings:

  • support for developing AI guidance, procurement strategies, and rollouts
  • technical assistance and professional learning on AI-readiness assessments, legal and regulatory compliance considerations, and use-case development
  • insights on national trends and what’s working on the ground

We also support work in areas such as the following:

  • using AI-enabled assessment and feedback tools
  • strengthening AI-related data practices
  • navigating ethical and human-centered implementation
