Empowering educators to transform science teaching, learning, and leading.
In April 2020, NextGenScience launched at WestEd to support educators with the implementation of rigorous science standards across the nation. We bring together expertise in classroom teaching, learning design, science leadership, and policy analysis.
Our team was formerly part of Achieve — the nonprofit organization that coordinated the development of the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) in 2013 and led efforts to improve the design, selection, and implementation of high-quality science curricula and assessments.
At WestEd, NextGenScience works alongside educators to design quality, coherent programs that align science standards, instructional materials, professional learning, and assessments.
All students experience a science education that honors their identities and experiences, motivates them to explore relevant issues, and prepares them for college, career, and citizenship.
District Support. We partner with leaders to develop plans, evaluate existing programs, and provide data-driven solutions.
Quality Materials. NextGenScience works with school systems and curriculum developers to advance the design, selection, and use of high-quality science materials.
A. Reviews. Expert reviewers use Achieve’s EQuIP Rubric for Science to conduct alignment and quality reviews of materials, awarding the NGSS Design Badge from NextGenScience to top-rated units.
B. Professional Learning. We support educators and leaders in evaluating curricula, identifying strengths and limitations, and managing implementation.
C. Steward of the NGSS. We’re passionate about great science teaching and committed to supporting educators with achieving the vision of the NGSS. NextGenScience serves as a steward of the NGSS and standards based on A Framework for K-12 Science Education. Free and publicly accessible resources are available at nextgenscience.org and are shared on Twitter at @OfficialNGSS.
