Operationalizing data to improve school climate can be challenging and requires a multifaceted approach, including investment in resources, capacity-building, and strong relationships.
Join the California Center for School Climate (CCSC) for two virtual events in April that highlight data use in action: both as a method to drive school climate improvement and collaboration and as a tool to support students’ mental wellness.
The Power of Collaboration in Data-Informed School Climate Improvement
Date: Friday, April 19, 2024
Time: 10 a.m.–11 p.m. (PT) / 1 p.m.–2 p.m. (ET)
What You Will Learn
In this virtual session hosted by the CCSC and the California Department of Education (CDE) leaders from the Sweetwater Union High School District (SUHSD) in Chula Vista and San Diego County Office of Education will discuss the role of data in shaping their collaborative work, and also the importance of adaptive elements like trust, open communication, and mutual regard. Participants will leave with tips and strategies for engaging in collaborative, data-driven improvement in their own schools or districts.
Measuring Student Mental Wellness with the California Healthy Kids Survey
Date: Tuesday, April 23, 2024
Time: 10 a.m.–11 p.m. (PT) / 1 p.m.–2 p.m. (ET)
What You Will Learn
In this virtual session, participants will explore the CalSCHLS System Mental Health Supports survey module—now available to all California schools and districts. This module assesses students’ perceptions of mental health stigma, help-seeking behaviors, access to services, and utilization of supports.
Presenters will discuss emerging data concerning the mental health landscape among California students and how this data informs mental health initiatives. Additionally, participants will receive guidance on accessing mental health data specific to their school, district, or county through the CalSCHLS data dashboards.
