Webinar hosted by Children Now with support provided by The California Endowment.
Join WestEd and leading organizations who will present and discuss key findings presented in two recently published reports related to the use of suspensions in California’s public K-12 schools.
WestEd will present findings from its newly released report, How Are Suspensions Related to School Climate in California Middle Schools? Research has indicated that exclusionary discipline practices such as out-of-school suspensions can have unintended negative effects and have been disproportionately used with students of color. In response, California has taken a leading role nationally in reducing suspension rates and attempting to improve school climate. To explore the impact of these reform efforts, WestEd explores how recent changes in suspension rates relate to changes in school climate.
Presenters will also discuss findings from The Civil Rights Project report, Is California Doing Enough to Close the School Discipline Gap (June 22, 2020).
