On behalf of the Educational Testing Service (ETS), content and assessment specialists in WestEd’s Standards, Assessment, and Accountability Services (SAAS) program conducted a study of the alignment between items on the 2016 HiSET mathematics and English language arts (ELA) exams and the College and Career Readiness Standards for Adult Education (CCRS-AE).
SAAS staff examined all items on three test forms per subject area for evidence of categorical concurrence, or linkage to one or more standards. SAAS analysts recorded each item-to-standard match and provided a rating describing the strength of that match (Strong or Partial) in terms of measuring a core or fundamental element of that standard. They conducted analyses at the item, form, and total pool levels for each subject area.
Findings will be used formatively by ETS to ensure that the item pools for this high school equivalency exam are aligned to the depth and breadth of the CCRS-AE.
