How can educators use Black youth life histories and experiences to inform their mindset, curriculum, and pedagogical practices?
In this archived webinar, WestEd’s Dr. Lamar Johnson describes how Critical Race English Education (CREE) promotes the (re)imagining of literacy education for all students. CREE is a framework and pedagogical practice that centers the Black experience, diverse texts, Black students’ language and literacy practices, and a critical race English education reading and writing workshop model.
Utilizing CREE, educators address the relationship between Black Language, identity, and freedom. The webinar will illustrate CREE in praxis and illuminate how educators can sustain and foster the cultural, linguistic, and literacy assets of Black youth through humanizing teaching practices.
This is the first webinar in the Joyful Schooling Webinar Series.
