Recorded on June 11, 2012
This archived webinar provides an overview of effective formative assessment.
This webinar was the second in a series of three provided for the California Office to Reform Education (CORE) Alliance. An existing collaborative of eight districts in California formed in 2011, this alliance represents over a million students and includes urban, suburban, and rural school settings in northern, central, and southern parts of the state.
The CORE Standards, Assessment, and Instruction (SAI) team is led by CORE’s Director of Standards, Assessment, and Instruction and composed of assessment and curriculum leadership from each of the eight CORE districts.
The SAI team specifically requested the Regional Educational Laboratory West’s assistance as they design, develop, and pilot test new common formative assessment modules and related professional learning for teachers.
The SAI team wanted to provide a research grounding for participants in its Summer Design Institute where such assessment modules will be developed. A series of three pre-institute webinars―one focused on English language arts, one on mathematics, and one on formative assessment―were provided for teacher leaders attending the institute so that they come prepared to fully engage in the design of formative assessment modules tied to the Common Core State Standards.
The Regional Educational Laboratory West at WestEd served as host.
